disposable fashion resolution

January 28, 2015 § 5 Comments

Happy 2015 everyone! It has been a busy January, and it’s almost over already! I am not very big on resolutions, although last year’s “Drink More Champagne in 2014” WAS a smashing success. This resolution is a little different. But I feel like it will be just as successful!

This year my plan is to quit Forever21. No more $19.80 dresses. Or $9.80 statement necklaces. Or $4.80 t-shirts when I am in a pinch and just need that one specific color that I probably won’t ever wear again. I mean, I get the reasons we all shop there. It is EASY. There is one in every shopping area and the shop has something for everyone. Whether you are 12 or 42. Maybe I don’t need to shop in the same place as twelve year olds. And this “convenience” makes it just as easy to forget how Forever21 steals their designs from REAL designers, and probably uses less than ethical business practices in the factories overseas where it produces its garments.

Aside from these reasons, Forever21 is just about the “fastest” fashion that you can get. The stuff is pretty much past its trend prime before you bring it home. So an emphasis on quality obviously isn’t needed, since half a season is all you can plan to get out of it. Whether it falls apart, or just falls out of popularity, most of my Forever21 purchases through the years don’t even find their way to consignment for the above reasons! And I am not even going to get into this brand’s push of their religion via bible verse numbers on each and every of their screaming yellow “look at me, I’m a consumer” shopping bags.

I am working on less being more, and making more of what is already in my closet this year. Because, let’s face it…I rotate favorites and let the rest of my closet sit on the sidelines for the most part. But not in 2015! It’s time for the remix this year!

I wlll end my rant/resolution now, and let you carry on with your week. Hope it’s a great one!

We are currently on the most lovely holiday in England for Christmas and New Year, but I just can’t wait to share a few photos! A weekend in London is under our belt, and now we are enjoying my sister’s town of Brighton in the south.

I hope you all are having beautiful holidays and that your 2015 gets off to an amazing start, see more of you then!!

NYE, in a nutshell

December 24, 2014 § 6 Comments

I am the worst at New Year’s Eve. My birthday is January 2nd, so I try my hardest to reserve my excitement for THAT celebration. And besides the impending birthday, New Year’s always feels a little…anticlimactic, to me. I am not one who does well with being told I have to be in a certain place at a certain time, and midnight on New Year’s is about as hard and fast as deadlines get!

Since I also am terrible at planning what I wear in advance, I am still scouring the interwebs for sparkly confections to wear. Here are some of my finds so far…

Clearly black, metallics, and reds are on my mind. Now, go forth and celebrate! Cheers to a great new year, can’t wait for what 2015 will bring! Merry Everything and Happy New Year to all 🙂

feeling gray!

Ok, so these photos are terrible (I maybe felt the spirit a little too strongly the night before at my holiday work party), but I am just too stoked on my new hair to not share! Finally achieved the color I have been working towards since September.

Now it’s just a matter of treating my new gray locks super gently, as my hair had to be lightened a ton to get to this gray color. Loving my new old lady mane, and can’t wait to braid and curl it! What do you think….yay or nay to gray?!?!?!

for her, and mini her…a short wish list

For Her:

These gloves are so soft and plush inside!

And in other cold weather accessory news…this hat is adorable!

Cheating a little here, I **maybe** already bought this for myself. A coat that resembles a muppet?!? Yes, please.

And finally, I am in major love with this beaded Free People shift to ring in 2015!

For Mini Her:

If they made this vest in my size, I would probably be interested.

Clearly I have a thing for animal ears on apparel. And the pink on this hat is EXTRA.

Lo is legit obsessed with this pair of Vans. Meow.

And to round out the animals on clothes theme, these bear face convertible mittens are the cat’s meow.

And that is all for now. Hope everyone is having a magical week!

thanksgiving, styled

It ain’t cheap, but it sure is pretty! I have been focusing way too much on the cooking this year, and not enough on the “eating clothes”. Le sigh. These are the exact items I would use to construct my perfect Thankgiving outfit. Too bad I will not be looking NEARLY this put together tomorrow. There is always next year though.

Gratitude is my always attitude, but why not celebrate it with lots of food, drinks, and good company?!? Cheers to a lovely holiday for all! Happy Thanksgiving.

in the dark

Winter is starting to settle in, even here in Florida. These sequin pants make even the most neutral winter outfits fun! I dressed them up and down and piled on textures in both of these wintry looks.

top / pants / coat / kicks / beanie / bag

Even though this look is as basic as it gets, adding whimsical accessories kinda makes it. Who doesn’t love a pom pom hat? And, of course, sneakers…because comfort.

top / shoes / clutch / jacket / necklaces- here, here, here

These pants, styled for night, are my dream look for night. Sparkly, cool, comfortable, and textured, making the whole thing super luxe. This jacket is my everything. And the neutral palette keeps this sparkly/furry/lacy look from being WAY over the top, or …real housewife-y.

What are your go-to winter looks? Do you love neutrals as much as me, or is a pop of color the only thing that keeps the winter blues away?!
